Discussion of the future New Green Pact takes place Faro

On the 6th of February

The public participation tour that is being promoted as part of the process of creating the future National Green Investment Strategy, called the New Green Pact (NPV), will pass through the Algarve on the 6th of February.

The session, which will take place in room J18 of the Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve, at 9:30 am, aims to collect contributions for the «definition of public environmental investment priorities for the coming years».

In 2023, the creation of a long-term strategy for green investment in Portugal, the New Green Pact (NPV), was approved.

«Aiming to establish a long-term strategic and regenerative investment plan to support the environmental transition in Portugal, the NPV will identify the key sectors and solutions that allow us to face the climate emergency, ensuring, in particular, the existence of infrastructure, skills and processes suitable for current and future challenges, the solidity of qualifications and training of the population, the creation of green jobs, valuing territorial cohesion and the valorization of natural capital", according to AMAL, which promotes the session together with the General Secretariat for the Environment, the Environmental Fund, the University of Algarve and the Chamber of Faro.

The Mission Unit created to coordinate this process, composed, among others, of representatives from the various ministries, academia and civil society organizations, identified, throughout 2023, «the current Portuguese context in terms of public environmental investment, mapping, at the same time, at the same time, the key sectors whose future public investment allows for an exponential transition to a greener and fairer country».

This work made it possible to identify six major themes: Quality of life with Nature; Active and empowered citizens for the green and fair transition; Pact for water; Collective, active and shared mobility, accessible to everyone; Green Energy for all; People and territories safe and adapted to climate change.

Inspired by the European Union's Green Pact, the NPV «intends to present a structured long-term vision (2030), with proposals discussed, consensualized and widely shared and defended by Portuguese society, identifying common goals, priority collective needs, pointing out solutions and paths that support future public policies on the environment, bringing communities and territories to debate».

This public participation session is open to citizens, local authorities, civil society organizations, academia and companies. The interested you can sign up here.

It is also possible to participate online, on the same website.

After this phase of public participation, there will be a process of integrating the contributions received and preparing a proposal for the final version of the NPV, a proposal that will be submitted to public consultation via the Participa.pt Portal in due course.
