CAP announces reversal of cuts in aid for farmers

Within the scope of the CAP Strategic Plan

The Confederation of Farmers of Portugal (CAP) said today that the Government will reverse the cuts planned for farmers, within the scope of the PAC Strategic Plan, and rejected the violent protests affecting the sector.

In the case of organic farming, the cuts could amount to 35%.

«The Council was unanimous in considering that this would be absolutely unacceptable and that it demonstrates a lack of respect and disarticulation from the Ministry of Agriculture [...]», stated Álvaro Mendonça e Moura, president of CAP, after the meeting of the Council of Presidents of the confederation.

CAP said it had been in negotiations with the Government to reverse these measures, now announcing that "it was possible to reach an agreement with the Government to the effect that these cuts will have no effect."

The Ministries of Agriculture and Finance scheduled a joint press conference for this afternoon.
