Algarve brings gastronomy, culture, nature and beaches to FITUR

FITUR takes place in Madrid and marks the start of world tourism fairs

Algarve cuisine, culture, nature and beaches are the tourist products that the region will bring to Fitur to convince Spaniards to book a vacation in the region in 2024.

Fitur, which takes place in Madrid, between the 24th and 28th of January, marks the start of the world tourism fairs, «and the Algarve will once again be present to remind professionals in the sector and tourists of the reasons that make it so appealing to vacations".

Starting with wines, the Algarve Wine Tourism route will have a prominent place on the last day of the fair, featuring a special presentation by the Algarve Wine Commission, followed by wine tasting.

As a complement, the book «Algarve Wines – fruit of the sun and the earth» will be distributed during the event, and a QR code will be made available to visitors to access the new «Algarve Wine Catalog».

Using the same coding system, it will also be possible for anyone who passes by the Algarve display to virtually find the new brochure «Algarve and the Discoveries», which tells the connection between the Algarve destination and the maritime discoveries of the 15th and 16th centuries.

«A story that could well encourage Spaniards to go on an expedition towards the Algarve, to get to know the culture and territory of an adventurous people», considers the Algarve Tourism Region, noting, however, that the offer of Sun and Sea is , still, «the one that attracts the most tourists every year and the curious eyes of fair visitors».

The Algarve beaches will therefore also be promoted at Fitur.

«Fellowed by the new nomination for Best Beach Destination in Europe, an award it has already won ten times, the Algarve will proudly present its more than 100 beaches, spread over 200 kilometers of coastline», highlights the RTA.

A voting for the World Travel Awards is running until February 4th.

«Fitur is one of the largest tourism events in the world and the leading fair for the Ibero-American markets. It is therefore strategic for the Algarve, as we believe there is a lot of room for growth for the Spanish market in the region. From January to November 2023, we registered around 325 thousand guests and more than 865 thousand Spanish overnight stays in Algarve tourist accommodation. These are numbers that we want to see grow in 2024, with the boost of meetings with buyers from the associative and business sectors that we hope to have during the fair», says the president of Turismo do Algarve André Gomes.

The record results that the destination achieved in 2023 also make the region return to Madrid with even greater confidence.

«The prospects for 2024 are positive for the Algarve, with the year starting in an auspicious way: we will have new air routes and major events on the sporting calendar, such as the Michelin Gala, the Volta ao Algarve by bike or the Moto GP», reinforces André Gomes.

This year, Fitur will feature nine thousand participants from the tourism sector from 152 countries, with a total of 806 exhibitors.

The Algarve will appear as part of the national Tourism of Portugal stand (pavilion 4), which can be visited every day of the fair from 10 am.
