Albufeira will start the year with lots of sports, such as the Volta ao Algarve, a sports dance championship and the Cross das Amendoeiras.
In January, on the 26th, 27th and 28th, the Race Nature Albufeira will take place and, on the 27th, the National Under-21 Latin and Standard Championship (sport dance).
RaceNature is a mountain bike sporting event (in which motorized bikes can also participate, however these athletes are subject to a different classification), with GPS guidance, open to the participation of anyone over 18 years of age, of any sex or nationality.
Competitors compete solo or in teams of two, guided only by individual GPS, on a mandatory route. This event is organized by Cabreira Solutions, in accordance with the regulations of the Portuguese Cycling Federation and has the support of the Municipality of Albufeira.
As for the National Under-21 Latin and Standard Championship, it is the first national competition of the season to be held at the Albufeira Municipal Pavilion, by the Portuguese Sports Dance Federation, in partnership with Futebol Clube de Ferreiras and with the support of the Chamber Municipal.
Athletes who reach or will be aged between 21 and 16 years old can participate in the Under-20 National Championship. The national champions of this level will be determined in the Latin and standard disciplines, in the beginner, intermediate and open categories.
Also on January 27th, after the races, the National Circuit Champions Gala from the previous season will be held for the first time. The distinction will be given to solo athletes, pairs and groups. Peers from the national team will also be honored. On the 28th, Sunday, the 1st Training Camp of the season will be held at the same location.
Regarding the 50th Volta ao Algarve, the peloton is closed and will feature 25 teams. The only Portuguese stage race on the UCI ProSeries circuit, on the road between the 14th and 18th of February, will feature 13 WorldTeams, the highest number ever, equal to the number achieved in 2018. In addition to the majority of the peloton being made up of WorldTour collectives, the top five in the 2023 ranking will be present: UAE Team Emirates, Visma – Lease a Bike, Soudal Quick-Step, INEOS Grenadiers and Lidl -Trek.
At the end of February, the 25th, he returns to Pinhal do Concelho, in Açoteias, one of the most mythical cross-country races in the world and the most charismatic in Portugal.
This will be the 47th edition of the race and the penultimate stage of the World Athletics Cross-Country World Circuit. The event also includes the Regional Corta-Mato Championship and the Interassociações Jovem de Corta-Mato.
