Skateboarding event brings together a hundred athletes in Albufeira

A hundred athletes competed in the Albufeira Skate Challenge, an event «entirely dedicated to youth with a strong solidarity component», which took place on Saturday, the 9th, at the Albufeira Skatepark.

The first test of the day was a Battle for beginners, after free training, aimed at younger skaters and amateurs, who «received Skate lessons», according to Albufeira City Council.

This was followed by Battle Open competitions, with an amateur aspect, Death Race and Tricks 4 Cash.

In the Battle Open competition, the first places were awarded to Nimrod (1st place); Pedro Abreu (2nd place) and Pedro Estrada (3rd place), while in the amateur category the podium was occupied by Luca Bennett White (1st place), Yannich Ulmann (2nd place) and Sabath (3rd place).

At the level of beginners, the first three places were achieved by Diogo Matos (1st place); Santosh Bostelaar (2nd place) and Gioia Boragine (3rd place).

Daniel Peres became the absolute winner of Death Race.

The 1000 thousand announced prizes «were distributed among several registered athletes who performed the best maneuvers in 3 pre-defined areas of the circuit».

«In addition to the adrenaline of radical maneuvers, music was highlighted with the performances of the groups: No Time To Waste, DJ Gijoe, Panda Collective and Dj Virgos», according to the municipality.

The event has an associated solidarity component, a draw was held for a hamper and a skateboard, the latter by “Surf de Wave”, which yielded 400 euros, the amount resulting from the sale of the raffle tickets. This task was the responsibility of young people from Albufeira Surf Clube and GAJ – Albufeira Youth Office.

In the end, all the revenue raised was given to the Associação Cura da Alma, «which will use it to help needy families in the municipality».

The event had the collaboration of young volunteers from Albufeira School Groups and Clubs and Associations in the municipality, as well as the presence of the following entities: Cura da Alma, Central Skate Shop, Parte o Coco, Surf The Wave, Acai Summit and Albufeira Surf Club.

«It is in the new generations that hope for a better future lies, hence the municipality's concern with providing them with the best conditions in various areas of activity, ranging from teaching, to sport, volunteering and raising awareness of sustainable development» , according to José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira

Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president of the municipality responsible for Youth, reinforces this idea and adds that «sport, in addition to the competitive aspect, is an activity that privileges healthy coexistence, mutual help and teamwork, values ​​that are very important to level of human formation”.

The mayor also highlights «the enthusiasm of young people around an urban sport that has more and more fans, highlighting the Municipality's capacity in terms of sports infrastructures which, I say again, confirm that Albufeira has all the conditions to be a European City of sport in 2026”.

In addition to the Skatepark, Albufeira has, since last November, «a skate ramp considered one of the best in the country».

During the Albufeira Skate Challenge, artists Coman, Pierre LeVert and Erbon gave free rein to their creativity and created graffiti alluding to the event.

The Chamber also highlights the PhotoChallenge, «a challenge that will reward the best photos of the event with 3 Fnac gift vouchers worth 100 euros for first place; 75 for 2nd place and 50 for third place. «The big winner will also be awarded a weekend for 2 people, in local accommodation in Albufeira, an offer from the company Premium Key».

The winners will be announced on December 16th and the awards are scheduled for the following day, December 17th, at the FNAC store in Guia.
