Portimão honors 707 athletes and coaches at the Sports Gala

As part of the City Day celebrations

The Portimão City Council honored 707 athletes and coaches who stood out in different modalities in the 2022/23 sporting season, at the Sports Gala that took place on Friday, the 8th, at the Portimão Arena, as part of the City Day celebrations.

The honored sports agents represent 30 clubs, four school groups and three universities, and are practitioners of 40 sports.

With the Gold Grade Award, 34 athletes and 13 coaches were honored, 201 athletes and 26 coaches received the Silver Grade Award and the Bronze Grade Award was awarded to 406 athletes and 27 coaches.

The Municipality of Portimão also honored the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation with the Sports Merit Award, for 30 years of the Portimão International Tournament and for the «huge contribution to the sporting and social development of the sport in the municipality and the region».

«Also with the Merit Award, the Associação Jogo de Quelfes Portugal was honored, for 15 years of the Quelfes Games and in recognition of the work developed in favor of sport for all, without forgetting the mobilizing capacity of the educational and sporting community, the dissemination of the values ​​of Olympism and sporting ethics, with the distinction given to Jorge Costa, president of the entity, and Gustavo Marcos, representative of the Quelfes Games», according to Portimão City Council.

Portimonense Sporting Clube was distinguished with the Equality Award, «for good practices in integrating the dimension of gender equality, in federated sports, with an all-female team competing in a Children's District Championship, headed by João Santos, director of the club , receive the reward».

Throughout the ceremony there were several moments of entertainment provided by the municipality's dance schools Associação Dança Mais, under the responsibility of Joana Wirachman, and Escola Municipal de Dança, with the Contemporary Dance group, led by Rita Lopes.

 

 

The Merit Award is awarded to entities or individuals who, in a relevant way, have contributed to the development and sporting merit of the municipality and/or sport in general.

The Equality Award is awarded at the proposal of the Municipality of Portimão to agents promoting activities and/or sporting competitions that, in a significant way, have contributed to the reinforcement of gender equality in sport throughout each sporting season.

As for the Bronze Award, it is given to athletes representing clubs, universities or groups of schools in the municipality, and to athletes from or residents of the municipality representing entities from outside the municipality, who ranked first in regional championships and cups/ district federative or school sports officials.

The Silver Grade Award is intended for athletes representing clubs, universities or groups of schools in the municipality, and for natural athletes or residents of the municipality representing entities from outside the municipality, who classified themselves in the first three places in official national championships and cups. federations or school sports.

Finally, the Gold Degree Award is awarded to athletes born in or resident in the municipality classified among the top ten places in championships and cups in Europe and the World, obtained in official federative or school sports competitions.
