Already operating at the Algarve Ophthalmological Center

«All procedures were carried out successfully by the medical team», says the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA)

20 years later, Terras do Infante Hospital recovered its surgical capacity, now in ophthalmology. Six operations were carried out last Thursday, December 14th, at the new Algarve Ophthalmological Center, opened in October. 

«All procedures were carried out successfully by the medical team», says the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), in a press release.

The group of professionals who conducted these procedures included ophthalmologists Argílio Caldeirinha and Conceição Braz, nurses Magda Clímaco, Lúcia Mancha, Paula Martins, Irene Rosa and assistants Fátima and Guida, as well as several nurses and assistants in the integration and training process, with the support of the Pharmacy Department.

«The team's competence and commitment were evident, and the CHUA Board of Directors took advantage of this opportunity to congratulate all the professionals involved in this important step towards the recovery and strengthening of surgical services at Hospital Terras do Infante» which «represents a very significant improvement in access, surgical response and quality of healthcare in the Algarve», says CHUA.

The Terras do Infante SNS Hospital was inaugurated by the Minister of Health, in November 2022, and this objective of recovering waiting lists for surgery and consultations was soon announced.

The Ophthalmological Center would be inaugurated about a year later, in October of this year, with a high volume, representing an investment of around 1,1 million euros, in equipment, counting, in addition to CHUA's own money, with the support from the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), the Dieter Morszeck Foundation and the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Olhão, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo António and the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRAlg), with EU funds.
