Frederico Tátá Regala is the new regional director of Culture for the Algarve

Regional Directorates of Culture will be abolished and integrated into the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions

Archaeologist Frederico Tátá Regala has been, since last Friday, December 1st, the new regional director of Culture of the Algarve (DCRAlg), on a replacement basis, following the departure of Adriana Freire Nogueira.

Frederico Regala served as director of Cultural Goods Services at DRCAlg. He has a PhD in Archeology from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve (2021), with a dissertation on “The Speleo-Archaeological Heritage of the Algarve: inventory, characterization and safeguarding of karst cavities with archaeological potential”, obtaining the final classification of Very Good with distinction and praise.

He received the Estácio da Veiga Prize for Archeology and Human Evolution, awarded by the Interdisciplinary Center for Archeology and Evolution of Human Behavior (ICArEHB), in partnership with the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve, to distinguish the best dissertation work of Master's degree in Prehistory and Human Evolution, 2016.

Pedro Gago, conservator-restorer at DRCAlg, takes on the role of director of Cultural Goods Services.

Adriana Freire Nogueira, who has served as regional director of Culture in the Algarve since 2018, returns, at her request, to academic life and to the position of associate professor at the University of Algarve.

In a statement, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve thanks Adriana Freire Nogueira for her «dedication, commitment and enthusiasm at the service of culture in the Algarve, highlighting the opening of the Sagres Fortaleza Exhibition Center, and the creation of the Contemporary Art Center, on the first floor, which opened with an exhibition by Manuel Baptista».

This entity also recalls the contracts «for the maintenance and conservation of the Roman mosaics of the Villa de Milreu, the Almohad rammed earth modules of the Paderne Castle, the rehabilitation of the Alcalar 9 monument and its surrounding area, the Saramago Literary Route in the Algarve and the creation of GAAC – Support Office for Cultural Agents, among dozens of other projects in which she was involved».

The regional directorate of Culture of the Algarve, like all others in the country, is about to be extinguished, with plans to integrate its services and employees into the Regional Coordination and Development Commission.
