Exhibition “Rocha de Sousa: here I will stay” on display at the Silves Library until the 29th

The exhibition aims to give testimony to the work of Rocha de Sousa

The exhibition “Rocha de Sousa: Here I will stay” remains on display at the Silves Municipal Library, until December 29th.

Presented as an «act of resistance to absence and oblivion», the exhibition aims to give testimony to the work of Rocha de Sousa (who was born in Silves, in 1938, and died in Lisbon, in 2021), «simultaneously built under the design program of “voluntary coincidences”, sought and exercised in the fields of teaching, essays, criticism, fiction, visual arts, cinema and television, and with the conviction that only in the unconstrained freedom of “being diverse without heteronyms”, solidarity is expressed, finding in it the circular arguments of a solitary creation».

Distinguished by the Municipality of Silves, in 2019, with the Art and Culture Prize, Rocha de Sousa wrote in the acknowledgment that was published in the newspaper Terra Ruiva (in October 2021): «here I will stay, here I will stay, a historical point that obliges me nationality, truth of roots, images again, memory, a body, a testimony with address registration».

Rocha de Sousa was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, an art critic and also a visual artist.
