Rosa Palma, pResident of the Municipality of Silves, he was, on November 29th, at the Passos Manuel Library, at the Assembly of the Republic, to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine.
The Portugal-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group presented, in a round table, the debate on the topic “Testimony of a Trip to Palestine”.
The president of Silves participated in this initiative as part of her official visit to Palestine, between April 29th and May 6th, representing the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), where she holds the position of Substitute Member on the Board of Directors.
This trip, which aimed to learn about the operating conditions of Local Government, share experiences, as well as promote ties of mutual cooperation between municipalities, was carried out at the invitation of the State of Palestine through its diplomatic mission in Portugal.
«This experience also allowed us to come into contact with the dramatic living conditions of the Palestinian population that are imposed by the State of Israel», stated Rosa Palma.
The event was attended by the Palestinian ambassador to Portugal Nabil Abuznaid, deputies representing the Portugal-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group (GPA) – Joana Mortágua (president), Ivan Gonçalves (vice-president), Bruno Dias (vice-president), Ana Isabel Santos, Carla Sousa, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Isabel Moreira, Miguel Matos, Jamila Madeira, Rui Cruz and other mayors who were part of the delegation from the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) on the visit to Palestine.
The establishment of this date, implemented through Resolution 32/40 B of the UN General Assembly, aims to raise awareness in the international community of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, as well as reaffirm the commitment and solidarity that the United Nations ( UN) has towards these people.
