A total of 167 students and trainees from the municipality of Portimão participated, in October and November, in the activities of the cultural association LAC – Laboratório de Atividades Criativas, based in Lagos.
The objective was to raise awareness among young people about the relevance of the role of art in history and the importance of stimulating creativity and combating prejudices and artistic barriers.
This participation results from the collaboration protocol signed in April between the Municipality of Portimão and LAC, within the scope of the Algarve association's candidacy for the 2023-2026 Sustained Support Program for the Arts, in the field of visual arts, promoted by the Directorate-General for the Arts .
Following the established protocol, a mediation and audience development program was created, aimed at schools in the municipality of Portimão, which will run until 2026, covering eight activities per year (four workshops and four artistic practice activities), to be carried out in the LAC building, located in Lagos, including visits to the exhibitions, ateliers and music studios, as well as contact between students and artists in residence.
In this first year, the School Groups of Bemposta, Eng. Nuno Mergulhão, Júdice Fialho and Poeta António Aleixo joined the project, in addition to DUAL Qualificação Profissional – Centro de Portimão and Escola Profissional Gil Eanes, which made it possible to participate in the activities to 167 students and trainees, aged between 12 and 18, accompanied by 18 teachers, without any type of charge for those involved, as this program of sustained support for the arts is co-financed by the Municipality of Portimão.
At the beginning of next year, all school groups and professional schools in the municipality of Portimão will again be invited to join the project.
