“Viagem” and Maré Alta” bring culture to Fortaleza de Sagres

On the 26rd and 28th of November

A “Journey” and perspectives of “High Tide” will spread culture in the Sagres Fortress, on the 26th and 28th of November, a Sunday and a Tuesday.

On the 26th, at 15:30 pm, the show “Maré Alta” will take place, a project promoted by Barro i Cal – Associação Comunitária, Cultural e Artística.

On November 28th, the traveling puppet show “A Viagem” will be presented by Mãozorra Teatro de Marionetas.

“Maré Alta” is a show commemorating the centenary of the 1st edition of the work Os Pescadores, by Raúl Brandão. On stage will be artists Sónia Pereira (voice) and Carlos Boita (piano).

About the Sagres Promontory, in this work, the author wrote: “The promontory is a gnarled fist, with two fingers extended towards the sea — the tip of S. Vicente and the tip of Sagres.

On days without sun, like today, the fingers seem like iron: they point and subdue you. In front of the unlimited sea; below the abyss, a hundred meters high. Harsh winds strip the sheared hill of flesh, and in winter the waves sweep it from side to side. Sagres is the cape of the world. (Brandão ([1923] 2004: 187-188)».

«Dedicated to the sea, “Maré Alta” aims to pay homage to it, through its beauty, the fascination it has always exerted on Man and inspired him, through fishing communities and their myths and rituals, without, however, belittling the dangers and episodes , sometimes tragic and harsh, which it also contains», according to the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture.

Barro i Cal's proposal is for the public to embark on «a multi-century journey through oral and authorial poetry (with special emphasis on the XNUMXth and XNUMXst centuries and without neglecting, however, a certain note of regional literature) embodied by the musical language of the piano that , sometimes accentuates, sometimes complements, sometimes appears as a background and/or setting, on the Word».

Participation is free, by registering by email at [email protected]

The “A Viagem” project, a theater of objects without words, “takes spectators to a traveling theater room, inside a Mercedes 206 D van, from 1976, with a maximum capacity for nine participants, where intimate sessions and great proximity to the public. This is a show for all audiences, without words, that mixes visual theater and theater of objects».

The participants are João Costa, actor/manipulator, José Ramos, lobby boy, and Pedro Glória, light and sound technician.
