Mediterranean Diet Route passes through Albufeira this weekend

Event features gastronomic demonstrations, music and theater

The Mediterranean Diet Route will pass through Albufeira this weekend, 11th and 12th November, with gastronomic demonstrations, music and theater.

The Caliços Municipal Market will have gastronomic demonstrations in which octopus and mackerel will be prepared by chef Rui Palma, from the IN LOCO Association, and Doce Fino do Algarve by Maria Augusta Aragão, trainer at the Centro de Artes e Ofícios Carlos Silva e Sousa ( Albufeira).

In a note, the Albufeira municipality explains that the Gastronomic Demonstrations, entitled “De Roda do Tacho”, «allow participants to taste all the delicacies prepared in the Market».

In addition to the food, there is a tasting of regional wines, in this case Malacca (Albufeirense wine with several awards), which will harmonize with the dishes cooked during the event.

The two-day program also includes exhibitions of traditional Portuguese music, folklore, theater, games, stamping workshops, tile painting and esparto crafts.

On the first day, November 11th, the doors open at 9:30 am, with “a little dance” and ends at 11:30 am, with a demonstration of the preparation of Roasted Octopus with Chestnuts.

On Sunday, November 12th, the program continues throughout the day. It starts at 9:30 am with artisans and producers from the Mediterranean Diet Network, some who present crafts and other products from the region, with which you can prepare your meals. At 9:45 am the Teatro Dom Roberto will show “O Grande Rebulixo”.

Between 10 am and 00 am it is time to gather the family around Traditional Games and print symbols of the Mediterranean Diet.

Meanwhile, at 11 am, “Entretenga” presents “Olha a Modinha”, an initiative that allows you to learn, or perhaps remember, traditional songs with local voices. At 00:12 pm, chef Rui Palma begins preparing Mackerel in Vilão Sauce and Potatoes with Piripiri, and follows, at 00:13 pm, the regional wine tasting, in this case with Malaca.

At 13:30 pm the cycle of arts and crafts workshops begins with Graça Martins teaching participants how to take their first steps in painting on tiles.

The meal is not complete without dessert and, therefore, at 14 pm, Maria Augusta Aragão interrupts the workshops to show off her skills at Doce Fino.

An hour later, at 15:00 pm, anyone who wishes can learn from Isidoro Ramos how to make esparto empreita and, to end the program, at 15:30 pm, it is possible to enjoy ethnography and Floclore with the Olhos de Água Folklore Ranch.

«The Mediterranean Diet must be preserved and energized. More than a diet, it is a lifestyle that is many thousands of years old, where nutrition is the central concern, and is already considered one of the healthiest diets in the world", says José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira .

The event is organized by the IN LOCO Association, promoter of the Mediterranean Diet, and is supported by CRESC 2020, in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira.
