Network that brings together 18 Municipal Markets in the Algarve will be launched in Silves

Network aims to «value local markets, quality products and local commerce, in an integrated, articulated way»

The Regional Network of Local Markets (RRML), a project that unites 18 municipal markets in the Algarve, will be officially launched at an event that will take place on November 12th, at 14:30 pm, at the Silves Municipal Market.

This event will bring all the project partners into the same market, in this case Silves, namely the Municipal Markets of Sagres, Aljezur, Odeceixe, Vila do Bispo, Almádena, Odiáxere, Barão de São João, Bensafrim, Espiche, Monchique , Alvor, Silves, São Bartolomeu de Messines, Alcantarilha, Pêra, Algoz, Moncarapacho and São Brás de Alportel.

One of the highlights of the program is the formal constitution of the RRML, whose main objective is to “contribute to the dynamism of the local economy, with a focus on valuing local markets, quality products and local commerce, in an articulated integrated way”, according to Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, which coordinates the Regional Network of Local Markets.

 

 

The event is open to the public and features «unique moments of conversation, gastronomy and musical entertainment. Gastronomic products from the RRML markets will be highlighted at the event, with tastings of caldo verde, cockle xerém and alguidar meat, among other snacks».

Those who go to the Silves Market will also be able to enjoy musical entertainment, led by Projeto Rouge, composed of Mário Marques and Gonçalo Pescada, playing the saxophone and accordion, respectively.

The event's program also includes an opening session, scheduled for 15pm, where José Apolinário, president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), Pedro Valadas Monteiro, regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Márcio Viegas, president of Vicentina.

This is followed by a conference on Territorial Food Systems and Local Markets (15:30 pm), by Francisco Sarmento, specialist in sustainable food systems, and the presentation of the Regional Network of Local Markets (16:00 pm), by Aura Fraga (Vicentina) and Nuno Tenazinha (KOBU Agency).

After the closing, which will be done by Rosa Palma, president of the Chamber of Silves (17pm), participants will be invited to visit the Mercados em Rede event and taste products from the region. The Project Rouge concert is scheduled for 00pm.

The Regional Network of Local Markets is an intermunicipal project framed in the Action and Development Plan for Endogenous Resources – PADRE, which encompasses 18 Municipal Markets in the Algarve, being financed by national and European Union funds.
