«The youth vote and European democracy» is the topic of debate at the University of Algarve

The intention is to give voice and space to younger people who, in the last European Elections, in 2019, were those who voted least, particularly in the Algarve

«The youth vote and European democracy» is the theme of the debate that EuropeDirect Algarve, the European Documentation Center and the Academic Association of the University of Algarve, co-organize, on the 28th of November, from 15 pm, in the Red Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics, on the Gambelas Campus of UAlg, in Faro.

There will be talk about the “right/duty to vote” of giving “the voice of all young people” and “threats to the democratic system”, with the participation of Pedro Valente da Silva, director of the Parliament's Information Office European in Portugal, and Filipa Lopes, manager of the Unidos.EU community.

The debate is part of the «United for Democracy» initiative, a cycle of events that aims to bring reflection and debate to the Algarve on the topics that most impact the region.

There is also an implicit strong appeal to civic participation and activism, particularly political, in the invitation to join the CUnidos.EU community Act together now – Unidos.eu (europa.eu) and encouraging people to vote in the next European Elections on June 9, 2024.

This cycle also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the April revolution and the victory of Democracy in Portugal.

The events are public but the intention is to give a voice and space to younger people who, in the last European Elections, in 2019, were those who voted least, particularly in the Algarve.

At the entrance to the auditorium, dissemination and service counters will be available for participating organizations: ESN Portugal – Erasmus Student Network, the EUInfluencers project (Dypall), the Movimento Greve Climática Algarve, party youth and European networks.

An exhibition of posters on major current European issues will also be on display there and later at the UAlg Library in Gambelas.

"European democracy is a fundamental value that we all share, regardless of our political affiliation or views. Supporting it together is much easier than acting alone. Tens of thousands of people from across the EU are now coming together, willing to raise their voices and take action to ensure that we work towards strengthening this fundamental value on which our European way of life is based."-  About us | Together (europa.eu)
