Shows, entertainment, stories and the nativity scene by José Cortes liven up Christmas in Lagos

Shows, circulating entertainment, storytelling sessions, boosting local commerce and the traditional José Cortes nativity scene exhibition will liven up Lagos this Christmas, between the 1st of December and the 6th of January.

The Christmas program in the municipality of Lacobrigense will have its nerve center in Praça do Infante, «but the magic will be experienced throughout the municipality», according to the Chamber of Lagos, which prepared a program «with the families of residents and visitors in mind».

The party program, which can be consulted in full here, includes the installation of a Christmas Village in Praça do Infante, between the 1st and 24th of December, «which will include Santa Claus House, grocery store, ecological ice rink and ramp, train, face painting, jugglers, photospots and entertainment for the little ones». Santa Claus will arrive on the 2nd, at 15 pm, «with gifts for the little ones».

This year, Armazém Regimental will be another entertainment hub, with daily children's theater shows (“Santa Claus and the Duendes” at 15pm and “Os Piratas Salvam o Natal” at 00pm), story-telling sessions with Márcia Gambito and the performance of the children's choir of Grupo Coral de Lagos on the 18th (00pm).

For young creatives, there will be a Christmas Atelier on Rua Porta de Portugal (1st to 24th December), “which will feature balloon modeling, creation of badges, hats, plasticine nativity scenes, finger puppets, Christmas pine cones and a letter to Father Christmas".

Those who visit this city during the Christmas season will also be able to count on entertainment at Mercado da Avenida, musical shows at Mercado de Santo Amaro and Viv'o Mercado (every Wednesday in December) and the Craft Show of the Barlavento do Mercado Artisans Association of Levante, on the 9th and 10th of December.

As for the scheduled shows, the program starts on day one, at the Lagos Cultural Center, with the presence of Tom Fitzpatrick and the Jazz Orchestra.

This will be followed, in the same structure, by concerts by Orquestra Ligeira de Lagos (9th), Associação de Dança de Lagos (15th and 16th), Orquestra do Algarve (22nd) and Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1.º de Maio (23rd). ). In addition, the “Christmas Concert by IV Sons d'Aquém Mar” (Church of Bensafrim, 2nd) and “Solidarity Concert” by Grupo Coral de Lagos (Church of Santa Maria, 15th) will be presented.

Among the programming, highlights also include Natalândia at the Lagos Zoo (9th to 25th December), a guided tour “Discovering Christmas in Lagos” with Artur de Jesus (16 and 19), “Noite dos Pirilampos” with Nelda Magalhães , Bruno Batista, Carlos Norton and Vasco Ramalho (Municipal Library, 15th) and “Musical Sessions: Christmas is coming” with Ana Correia (Municipal Library, 16th) and the animated nativity scene by José Cortes, (Centro Cultural, 28 from November to January 13).

With the collaboration of ACRAL, local businesses will be part of the celebrations through a boosting initiative (1 December to 5 January) in which, for every purchase of 10 euros made in participating stores, you will be entitled to a coupon that allows you to qualify up to win vouchers worth 100 euros.

«To facilitate your Christmas shopping, parking will be free between December 1, 2023 and January 5, for a period of two hours, for users of the Frente Ribeirinha Car Park who present a purchase receipt(s) greater than 10 euros made on the same day, in local businesses», concluded the Chamber.
