EMARP launches new selective collection operation in narrow streets of Portimão and Alvor

Small vehicle goes where garbage trucks can't reach

EMARP – Municipal Water and Waste Company of Portimão, began on Monday, the 6th, a new urban waste collection operation in the old town of Portimão and in the town of Alvor, «areas characterized by narrow, inaccessible streets to traditional large vehicles».

The operation has “a small vehicle (3 cubic meters), acquired specifically for this purpose, and 40 360-liter recycling bins, placed close to homes, intended for the collection of undifferentiated and recyclable waste – plastic/metal, glass and paper", according to EMARP.

The new circuit, held daily, from Monday to Friday, from 6:00 am to 14:00 pm, «aims to make the disposal of waste easier and more convenient, improve hygiene and cleaning of the streets and continue the strategy of promoting and encouraging selective separation, which aims to divert materials from landfill that must be sent for multi-material recovery».
