From running to badminton, December is sports month in Lagoa

Activities take place throughout the month of December

Running, handball, badminton, boxing or canoeing make up the December sports lineup in Lagoa, which features more than 15 sporting events. 

The main highlight is the return of the São Silvestre Race, scheduled for December 30th, at 17:30 pm, next to the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium. A race that currently has more than 200 registrations.

In handball, a sport with a strong tradition in the municipality, the month of December will host, between the 20th and 23rd, the 10th Edition of the Cidade de Lagoa International Tournament, which will feature teams from Hungary, Sweden, Cape Verde and Portugal.

Badminton, a sport in which Lagoa is a national and international reference, will also host two open tournaments to promote the sport (2nd and 8th), in addition to the Youth Olympics (9th), an initiative by the Municipality of Lagoa to promote anchor sports of the municipality.

Lagoa also promotes skating and handball, also through the Youth Olympics initiative, on the 2nd and 16th of December.

On the 8th, 9th and 10th of December, the Pavilhão Municipal Desportivo Jacinto Correia will host the international Boxing tournament, with boxers from several European countries.

The sport of canoeing will be present in the Natal Circuit, which takes place on December 16th, with a departure scheduled for the riverside area of ​​Mexilhoeira da Carregação.

In addition to the events mentioned, Lagoa will also host a national stage of Climbing (day 2), the district chess championship (day 3), an event by the Algarve Speed ​​Skating Association (day 8), an opening tournament in the form of athletics (the 9th), a martial arts club internship (the 9th) and a mega dance class from the Stam group (the 16th).

“Lagoa Acolhe Grandes Eventos” is the III Axis of the Municipal Sports Development Strategy of the Municipality of Lagoa.

For the Municipality, this is also a way to combat seasonality in the region, helping, directly or indirectly, the local economy.
