last sunday

A concert by Teresa Salgueiro and the opening of the Olhão Municipal Museum store marked the end of “Arte Larga”, on Sunday, the 12th.

On the last day of the second edition of the “Arte Larga” event, «the Municipal Museum of Olhão was highlighted with the “Museu ao Largo” initiative, which celebrated the municipality's tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The highlight of the day was the inauguration of the Museum Store, whose design was inspired by the city's cubist architecture of rooftops, viewpoints and counter viewpoints», according to the Olhão Chamber, which promoted the event.

Sunday was also the day for Teresa Salgueiro to take the stage at the now called Maria Barroso Municipal Auditorium, which was named after the former first lady at the inauguration of “Arte Larga”, on November 3rd.

The former lead singer of Madredeus had, moreover, already been «invited to the inauguration of the space, 14 years ago».

«Owner of an unmistakable voice and interpreting themes known to everyone and others not so much, this was another of the remarkable moments of these days that made Olhão breathe culture on several levels», illustrated the mayor.

On Sunday morning, it was also possible to watch and participate in various activities, «such as the Experiences for Families, where fig stars and cubist houses were made or the street show “Ai Xico Xica”, by Sofia Pimentão and Filipe Santos. Chef Margarida Vargues explained how the traditional litão is made and at the end of the demonstration, it was even possible to taste the delicacy».

The photography exhibition “Mar a Fora”, by photographer André Gil from Olhão, which emerged as part of the photographic survey project on work carried out on sea professionals, in Cubist territory, was also shown to the public on this day and is available to enjoy in the coming months, at the Olhão Municipal Museum.

The initiatives continued, at the Maria Barroso Municipal Auditorium, with “Caminus Duo”, by Mikhail Shumov (cello) and Joana Vieira Shumova (piano), followed by the musical show “Divas by Rita Fox”, an Algarve project, with the aim of honoring the great women in the history of Portuguese music.

The “Arte Larga” event ended with the performance “Anti-sala”, by the wwwperformanceart collective, «which once again brought the performing arts to the Maria Barroso Municipal Auditorium».

This municipal initiative, which took place between the 3rd and 12th of November, included tribute to Maria Barroso, the performance of Viviane and friends, the jazz concert by fellow countryman Júlio Resende, the conversation theater with the admirable Ruy de Carvalho or the passage of Farra Fanfarra through Rua do Comércio, there were several reasons to participate in the vast program of “Arte Larga”, allowing children and adults to share moments of cultural enrichment.

António Miguel Pina, mayor of Olhão, highlighted the importance of the «investment that has been made in the areas of culture and art. The success of 'Arte Larga' is proof that the Olhão community is interested in and pays close attention to activities carried out in the areas of dance, music, cinema, literature, theater or painting».
