RTA goes to Salgados Golf to see a pioneering example of reusing wastewater for irrigation

The idea is to «highlight the work that the golf industry has done in promoting environmental sustainability»

The Executive Committee of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) will visit the Salgados Golf Course, in Albufeira, «a pioneering project in the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation», on Monday, the 16th, at 10 am.

This visit, which takes place in the week in which Portugal hosts the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), will serve to «highlight the work that the golf industry has done in promoting environmental sustainability, encouraging the maintenance of responsible practices and the conservation of resources natural resources, namely through the reuse of wastewater to irrigate the fields», according to the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA).

«Golf is the second largest tourist product in the Algarve, a region that concentrates around half of the national offer of this sport and which in 2022 recorded more than one million and three hundred thousand rounds on its courses», adds the RTA.

The visit to the Salgados Golf Course is part of the new approach of the RTA Executive Committee to the monthly meetings of the governing body, «which have now become part of the visit to tourist resources in the region, giving visibility to equipment and projects that demonstrate good practices or represent good examples of the sector's offer».
