The automated renewal of the Driving License is available from today, through the Id.gov mobile application, and at this stage targets drivers up to 50 years old, Secretary of State Mário Campolargo told Lusa.
The Automated Driving License Renewal service “is a pioneering solution, included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan [PRR] and in the Simplex program, which results from the partnership between AMA – Agency for Administrative Modernization and IMT – Instituto da Mobilidade e of Transport, with the aim of simplifying, automating and reinforcing the proximity between citizens and public services with administrative modernization”, says the office of the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Administrative Modernization.
“Portuguese citizens already benefit from an information system that, through SMS, reminds them that they need to renew their driving license and that these citizens could, through the IMT, renew their license”, he recalled. the ruler.
“We have been doing this for some time, more than 280 thousand people today have already renewed their Driving License through digital processes and the Internet. What we are inaugurating today is that from our digital wallet, where we have our Driving License digitized, we can also be warned, have a notification that automatically allows us to renew our license in a simpler way”, explained Mário Campolargo.
The digital wallet is ID.gov, an application where any citizen can have a Citizen Card, Driving License, among other documents, whether from the Public Administration or private.
“It’s a repository where we have digitally, on our phone, all the cards that are relevant to our lives”, summarized Mário Campolargo.
“The Driving License, being there, and knowing today through a notification on our cell phone that we need to renew it, the system is super simple: we click on that notification and the system will automatically take all the relevant data, it will fill in all the necessary information and will generate a Driving License that will then appear digitally again on our already digitized citizen card and will then reach us at home through traditional means”, he explained.
With this measure, the digital wallet now has “an interaction” with the citizen.
The ID.gov app and the Digital Mobile Key (CMD) “are two pillars” of the Government's relationship with citizens and “should be increasingly adopted”, he highlighted, as the combination of these two allows for the automation of license renewal .
“The data that the Public Administration has about us allows us to self-complete the forms necessary for renewal and with a simple tap on this notification we can have our license renewed”, he pointed out.
This service will target, in its initial phase, a universe of around 6.000 drivers per month aged up to 50 years, without the need to present a medical certificate, with category B driving licenses that are in the revalidation period.
By March, Mário Campolargo estimates a universe of 13 thousand drivers aged up to 50 years and with a category B license notified of the Automated Driving License Renewal (RACC), who have the ID.gov app and the CMD.
Campolargo called for “more drivers to adopt this digital document card”.
The official said that the next step is to “continue” the efforts so that people over 50 years of age and who need to renew their license with a medical certificate can request the latter in an automated way, continuing the commitment to digital at the service of citizens.
In the case of citizens who do not have the ID.gov application, the IMT developed, last November, a notification service for drivers that alerts them to the need to revalidate their Driving License. To date, more than 280 drivers have been notified, with 75% having already renewed their document through IMT Online or at a counter.
