REN requalifies playing field next to Tunes Station

This is a project that allows the parish to be provided with another leisure area

The 600 young people and children from the five schools in the Union of Parishes of Algoz and Tunes can now enjoy the redeveloped multi-purpose playing field of REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais – located in the town of Tunes, next to the REN substation, in the municipality of Silves.

This is a project that allows the parish to be provided with another leisure area with new pavement, new markers and fence nets, lighting and a new surrounding space for the public, which includes the planting of 20 casuarina trees and garden benches.

This project arises within the scope of a protocol between the Union of Parishes of Algoz and Tunes and REN, in which the Union of Parishes manages and maintains the space, with REN being responsible for cleaning the surrounding land once a year.

Sérgio Antão, president of the Union of Parishes of Algoz and Tunes, congratulated REN «for providing a space that is no longer just a football field and that can be used for other leisure and sports activities, bringing together younger people and more senior».

«This space is also integrated into a leisure space, promoting local events organized by the community, activating associations in the region», he added.

João Gaspar, responsible for the Sustainable Networks and Easements area, highlighted that «this initiative brings together populations of various ages around the healthy practice of sport and contributes to increasing the well-being of the community, promoting generational balance and the promotion of active lifestyles in healthy environments. It is also a way of integrating our infrastructures into local communities», he also said.
