Who wants to help tell the story of Alvor's lifeguard through theater?

The theater show “To the taste of luck and destiny”, which will tell the story of the Alvor lifeguard, wants to have the participation of people from the town and the rest of the municipality of Portimão.

Therefore, the invitation is open to anyone wishing to participate in this «innovative theatrical project», which will mark the inauguration of the Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center, a project of the Portimão Museum.

The invitation is extended to all people over 12 years of age, who want to take part in the theater show “To the taste of luck and destiny”, about the memories of the emblematic vessel.

With artistic direction by Raquel Belchior and production by Ordem do O – Associação Cultural, the project will be presented on October 27th at the Alvor Community Center, in a meeting scheduled for 19pm.

The future theatrical show aims to «tell a little about the story of the Alvor lifeguard and its strong symbolic relationship with the fishing community of this typical village in the municipality of Portimão».

People from the three parishes of the municipality who wish to «immerse themselves in the creation of a unique and unrepeatable show» must register by October 26th, by clicking here.

From the 28th, participants will have several specific training sessions in theatrical techniques and tools (movement, voice, character construction, dramaturgy, etc.), which will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:30 am to 17:00 pm .

The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Portimão through the Museum, in collaboration with the Alvor Community Center and the Alvor Parish Council.

 


Rehabilitate the collective memory of Alvor – The Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center is the result of a project under the responsibility of the Portimão Museum, aiming to create a museum center dedicated to the history of lifeguards in close relationship with the local fishing community, their experiences and knowledge.

To this end, the rehabilitation of the Shipwreck Relief Institute Station (ISN) is in its final phase, a project costing 312 thousand euros and which was supported by CRESC Algarve 2020 – Algarve Regional Operational Program, through PADRE – Plan of Endogenous Resources Development Action.

One of the main points of interest of the future interpretive center, which will be a strong tourist attraction also in the low season, will be the old 'Alvor' lifeboat, of great importance to local fishermen since it came into operation last year. 1933, having recently benefited from profound recovery, on the initiative of the Municipality of Portimão.
