Displaced teachers in the Algarve will receive income support

The lack of teachers is widespread across the country, but has been felt more in the Algarve and Lisbon

Teachers displaced in the Algarve will receive income support, in accordance with the State Budget proposal for 2024, presented yesterday, October 10, by the Government.

This measure arises due to «the difficulty in placing teachers in the regions of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and Algarve», which leads to the “Income Support” program being «adapted and operationalized».

Thus, teachers placed in these regions, «and who work in schools more than 70 kilometers from their area of residence» will receive this support, «whenever the value of their accommodation costs exceeds the effort rate of 35%».

The lack of teachers is widespread across the country, but has been felt more in the Algarve and Lisbon, largely driven by the price of housing.

Furthermore, at the beginning of March, a protocol has also been signed, between the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) and the General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE), which will support the rental of houses to displaced teachers.

In Portimão, for example, 15 apartments have already been allocated to teachers.
