«I would rather not» is the theme of the 5th edition of the literary magazine «Palavrar»

Theme is a reference to Bartleby, Herman Melville's emblematic character

«Word — Reading and writing is resisting», an independent literary magazine, with free distribution and digital format, which brings together well-known names from the Portuguese literary scene and new voices, will launch its 5th edition, with a public presentation via Zoom on Sunday, October 8th, at 18:30 pm.

Its fifth issue is based on the theme “I’d rather not”, a reference to Bartleby, Herman Melville’s emblematic character, and promises texts that will surprise readers with their originality and irreverence.

Created by two literature lovers, who gave it the name «Palavrar», inspired by Fernando Pessoa, this literary magazine aims to entertain readers, make new literary voices known and promote reflection and knowledge.

Diana Almeida, obstetrician, lover of books and writing, who once dedicated herself to a literary criticism blog, and Analita Alves dos Santos, mentor and literary activist, curator of the reading club «Encontros Literários — O Pleasure of Writing» and author of the book «Erros de Português Nunca Mais», are responsible for the project, whose design is the responsibility of visual artist Isa Silva.

Characterized by the diversity of headings and subjects, «Word — Reading and Writing is Resisting» shares chronicles, short stories, children's stories, poetry by known and unknown authors, opinion articles by renowned voices in the national literary scene, motivational writing and literary criticism.

It also includes Proust's questionnaire for a special guest per edition. In this 5th edition, Ana Bárbara Pedrosa answers the most famous questionnaire in the world of literature.

Ronaldo Cagiano, Brazilian poet, is the special guest who, with his participation, marks the meeting of different voices of Lusophony, a distinctive feature of this literary magazine.

João Melo, an Angolan poet, who has participated in previous editions, also reinforces the bond of Lusophonies. Júlia Domingues, João Ventura, Lénia Rufino, Maria Luísa Francisco, Marco Neves, Mário Rufino and Sandra Barão Nobre are some of «Palavrar»'s frequent columnists.

The objective of the magazine is to enable learning from those who are at the forefront and give a voice to those who wish to chart a path in the literary world in Portugal.
