Portimão hosts another Grand Chapter of the Confraria dos Gastrónomos do Algarve

19th edition takes place on October 7th

Portimão will host next Saturday, October 7th, the XIX Grand Chapter of the Confraria dos Gastrónomos do Algarve, which will bring together around two hundred Portuguese, Spanish, Belgian, Italian and Greek confreres in the city, to praise gastronomy and reward the best products , chefs and restaurants in the Algarve region.

This 19th edition of the event also includes the seventh Gala of the Order of Santa Maria de Ossónoba, which decorates and rewards the best in Algarve, national and European gastronomy.

Initially, the Grand Chapter will take place in the main hall of Portimão City Council, where the presidents of the municipality and the host brotherhood, Isilda Gomes and José Manuel Alves, will welcome the participants.

Afterwards, the confreres will parade to the Colégio Church accompanied by the Sociedade Filarmónica de Portimão, where a ceremony will take place that will bring together the four dozen confraternities represented and from all over the country, from Spain, Belgium, Greece and Italy, in which they will be enthroned several confreres, of honor, merit and number.

In the evening, from 20pm onwards, dinner and the seventh Santa Maria de Ossónoba Awards Gala will take place at the Hotel Algarve Casino, located in Praia da Rocha, a biennial initiative that distinguishes thirteen categories, with emphasis on Traditional Cuisine of the Algarve, National Chef, Chef of the Algarve Region, Algarve Wine, Algarve Restaurant and Dedication to Gastronomy, among others.

On the occasion, the *Laurus Nobilis* award will be awarded to Isilda Gomes, sister and president of the Municipality of Portimão, for her services to the cause of the Confraria dos Gastrónomos do Algarve, «based on qualities of character and fradic spirit since her enthronement in 2007 , when she performed the functions of Civil Governor of the District of Faro», according to those responsible for the distinction.

 

 

The Santa Maria de Ossónoba awards correspond to «recognition for those who give so much to the community and who are often forgotten», and aim to «reinforce the image of the Brotherhood as guardian of how to do it», being an essential aspect One of its objectives is «the diffusion and dissemination of the cultural roots of the Algarve region and, also, the encouragement and defense of the public interests of this community».

Among the entities that will be present at the Grand Chapter are CEUCO – European Council of Brotherhoods, FECOES – Federación de Cofradías Vínicas y Gastronómicas (Spain), the Portuguese Federation of Gastronomic Brotherhoods, the Federation of Bacchic Brotherhoods of Portugal, the Acropolis association, Club of Attica (Greece), the Confraternitadel Lesso e della Pearà (Italy), the Confrérie du Peket de Namur (Belgium), etc.
