Lagoa and Boa Vista (Cape Verde) become twin cities

The protocol was signed in the city of Sal Rei, on September 29th

Last week, the Municipalities of Lagoa and Boa Vista, in Cape Verde, celebrated a twinning protocol between these two cities.

A delegation composed of the mayor Luís Encarnação, the president of the Municipal Assembly Águas da Cruz, the councilor responsible for Geminações Mário Guerreiro, and a technician from the Municipality traveled, last week, to the island of Boa Vista, in Cape Verde, to sign this document.

The protocol was signed in the city of Sal Rei, on September 29th, by the mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, and the president of the Municipality of Boa Vista Cláudio Mendonça.

«The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration, cultural exchange and the sharing of good practices in several areas of common interest», says the Câmara de Lagoa.

The twinning partnership will focus on areas such as education, tourism, spatial planning, economic development, employability, environmental sustainability, fishing, arts, culture, sport, social action and well-being.

The Municipalities of Lagoa and Boa Vista will appoint representatives to serve as main points of contact to operationalize the twinning partnership.

With the signing of this protocol, the decision taken unanimously at the Chamber meeting, dated June 2nd, and the deliberation taken, by majority, with 24 votes in favor and Chega's abstention, at the Municipal Assembly, dated of June 21st.

In addition to the signing ceremony of the twinning agreement, the president of the Chamber visited the Boa Vista Desalination Station and participated, as a guest speaker, in the event on tourism, within the scope of World Tourism Day.

«It is a historic moment for Lagoa, not only because of the strong connection that exists between the two communities and which will now be reinforced with this agreement, but because of the sharing of experiences and practices of two municipalities strongly associated with tourism and that face similar challenges. The scarcity of drinking water is a reality that also affects us, in the Algarve, and the example of water desalination in Boa Vista is a sign of the path that needs to be taken and learned from what is best done to solve a problem that, very much soon, it will belong to everyone», said the mayor.
