EmRaizArt Festival brings new circus and street arts to rural areas of Lagos

The show costs 10 euros for adults and 5 euros for children

The international contemporary circus festival EmRaizArt will present “The World in reverse”, a circus and street arts show set in rural areas, this weekend, 14th and 15th October, in Cotifo, in Lagos.

As part of its third edition, the festival aims to create «new forms of artistic interaction with nature, promoting environmental care and a connection with the natural world through the arts», says the Teatro Experimental de Lagos in a statement.

The show, performed by theater companies Trini-ty (Chile) Shhh!, A Tope! (Argentina) Almaradentro and the co-production of Teatro Experimental de Lagos and Companhia Vaia, will have two sessions, on Saturday and Sunday, at Quinta Velha.

The initiative also features musical interventions by the groups Batucada Mata de Barão de São João and Samba do Quintal.

According to the organization, EmRaizArt takes place "in the idyllic cork oak forest", in Cotifo, in Lagos, seeking to provide an artistic experience that takes contemporary circus and street arts to rural areas.

«In a world increasingly dominated by technological advances and media relations, the festival emerges as a farol of reflection on the sustainable development of territories and the essential bond that new generations establish with them», highlight the promoters.

Nelda Magalhães, the event's production director, mentioned in the note, states that the organization tries to ensure that the space maintains its natural characteristics during the performance of the show.

«We always try to ensure that the space, within the creation of trails and accessibility conditions, maintains its natural characteristics as much as possible, so that the experience is immersive. It's all very relational: the circus equipment is hanging from the trees themselves», he highlights.

The show costs 10 euros for adults and 5 euros for children.
