Mayors want Algarve to be a staging site for the 2030 Football World Cup

The 2030 World Cup will be organized by Portugal, Spain and Morocco

AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community launched this Wednesday, October 25th, an appeal to the Government and the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) for the region to be one of the training sites for the 2030 World Cup, which will be organized by Portugal, Spain and Morocco.

In a statement, AMAL recalls that there are, in the south of the country, «several training centers that meet the necessary conditions for this purpose, in addition to the privileged location of the Algarve guaranteeing proximity to the Spanish border and Morocco, which could represent a added value”.

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community also highlights the «good hotel offer in the region».

In AMAL's opinion, «it is fair for the Algarve that the Government and the Portuguese Football Federation recognize this merit to the region», hoping that the «appeal has a positive response».

The 2030 World Cup will be organized by Portugal, Spain and Morocco, but our country will only host games at the Estádios da Luz, Alvalade (Lisbon) and Dragão (FC Porto) as they are the only ones that meet the requirements demanded by FIFA (capacity of, at least 40 thousand people).
