AHETA welcomes creation of direct route to New York

Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve also highlights the connection to the Azores

The management of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA) welcomed the holding of direct flights between Faro and Newark Airport, in New York, in the United States of America, from May 24th, through the airline United Airlines.

According to AHETA, the connection to the USA «had already been an objective, both as an entity representing companies in the hotel sector, tourist entertainment and tourist real estate, and as a member of the board of directors of the Algarve Tourism Association».

For the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises, «this was a good example of the joint work of all players of the sector, with special emphasis on the Airport of Faro, Turismo de Portugal and ATA, which saw their efforts rewarded with the announcement of four weekly frequencies, using a Boeing 757-200, with 176 seats, between Faro and Newark».

To this is added connection Ponta Delgada/Faro, also to be operated from next spring, by SATA.

AHETA highlights that this new feature “will allow connecting that Azorean airport to Faro», with Ponta Delgada airport connecting to many destinations in Canada and the United States.

«We are convinced that the constant increases in the number of tourists from those two destinations to our region, registered in recent months, will be strongly increased», he concludes.
