Faro will now have a direct flight to Newark Airport, in New York, from May 24th, United Airlines has just announced.
This will be the first flight between the United States of America and Faro and will be operated four times a week, on a Boeing 757-200.
«The new flight will allow American customers to more easily visit the Algarve, which is home to some of the country's most beautiful beaches and impressive historical sites», reads the United Airlines statement.
Each flight will have 176 seats.
André Gomes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), has already reacted to this news.
The new route «arises through the joint effort of Turismo do Algarve, Turismo de Portugal, VINCI Airports-Aeroporto de Faro, with United Airlines», he said.
