18 scientists from the University of Algarve (UAlg) are among the most cited worldwide, according to the most recent update of the “World's Top 2% Scientists list”, made available by Stanford University (California, United States of America).
The database covers 22 areas and 174 disciplines, presenting a selection of scientists whose published research works have accelerated progress in their respective fields and influenced the work productivity of other researchers.
The update, published on October 4th, uses citations from the Scopus database, an international online database of scientific articles and respective citations, in different types, for academic newspapers and magazines.
Of the more than 200 researchers who appear on this list and, similarly to what had already been done previously, the data was compiled into two lists: one that allows the impact to be assessed throughout the career, which highlights 12 professors/scientists from the University of the Algarve, and another that has as a reference the impact over the last year, which includes 18 teachers/scientists from the Algarve Academy.
These results are authored by a group of experts, led by John Loannidis (Stanford University), and provide standardized information on citations, h-index, adjusted co-authorship hm index, citations of articles in different authorship positions and a composite indicator .
The first version was published in 2019, with the aim of creating a database of more than 100 thousand scientists, available to the public, and, since then, the publication has been updated every year.
