Earthquake in Morocco left at least 632 dead and hundreds injured

Shake felt in Algarve

The death toll in the strong earthquake that shook Morocco yesterday, Friday, night and which was felt in the Algarve and other regions of the country, according to a new report released by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior.

There are also 329 injured, 51 of whom are in serious condition, the ministry said in a statement cited by the Spanish agency EFE.

The ministry stated that 290 people died in the province of Al Haouz, south of Marrakesh and close to the epicenter, 190 in Taroudant, 89 in Chichaoua, 30 in Ouarzazate, 13 in Marrakesh, 11 in Azilal, five in Agadir, three in Casablanca and one in Al Youssoufia.

The earthquake reached magnitude 6,9 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in the town of Ighil, 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 18,5 kilometers.
