Secretary of State opens new Red Cross nursery in Vila Nova de Cacela

Nursery guarantees 35 new places

The Secretary of State for Inclusion inaugurated, this Friday, September 1st, the “Os Piratinhas” daycare center, in Vila Nova de Cacela, municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.

This project, managed by the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) – Vila Real de Santo António Delegation, and developed in partnership with the municipality of VRSA, represents a global investment of 85 thousand euros and guarantees 35 new places.

The daycare center “represents a new social response of a socio-educational nature, aimed at supporting families and children, designed to accommodate children up to 36 months of age”.

Opening hours are from 8:00 am to 18:30 pm, closed on holidays and weekends. All rooms are covered by the Social Security Institute's free grant.

Vila Real de Santo António City Council played an essential role in this project, ensuring the safety of the building to accommodate the daycare center, bearing the financial costs related to the Automatic Fire Detection System, extinguishers, signage and ventilation. In total, the municipality invested around 15 thousand euros.

According to the Mayor of VRSA Álvaro Araújo, «all places in this daycare center will be free», with the mayor also announcing that «there will soon be more free places, which will allow the needs of the municipality to be met».

Álvaro Araújo also announced that, in the two groups of schools in the municipality, 40 new employees have started working, which will make it possible to fill the gaps that existed, until now, in terms of personnel.

According to the head of the Red Cross, Manuel Marrafa, «this new social response allows students in the parish to start their school career in daycare and progress up to the 3rd cycle, which did not happen until now and forced those in charge of education to look for alternatives outside the parish or municipality».

According to the Secretary of State for Inclusion, Ana Sofia Antunes, the Government's priority is to democratize access to daycare centers, whether by creating new spaces or investing in modernization, conversion or creation of additional places in rooms already in operation. .

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the director of the District Center of Faro of Social Security Margarida Flores, the deputy of the Assembly of the Republic Jorge Botelho, the president of the Parish Council of Vila Nova de Cacela Luís Rodrigues, as well as other political representatives of the municipality and security forces.
