Registration for the Youth Parliament Program runs until October 25

“Living APRIL in Education: paths towards a plural and participatory school” is this year’s theme

Enrollment for the 2023/2024 Youth Parliament Program – Secondary Education runs until 25 October, it was announced today. 

This edition of the program is launched by the Assembly of the Republic, in partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, Ministry of Education, General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities, Legislative Assemblies of the Autonomous Regions of the Azores, Madeira and Regional Secretariats that oversee education and youth in the autonomous regions.

The program will be developed throughout the school year with secondary schools across the country that wish to participate, culminating in a national session, in the Assembly of the Republic, on the 27th and 28th of May of next year.

The Youth Parliament aims to «educate for citizenship, stimulating a taste for civic and political participation»; «to make known the Assembly of the Republic, the meaning of the parliamentary mandate, the rules of parliamentary debate and the decision-making process of Parliament, as a representative body of all Portuguese citizens», «promote democratic debate, respect for the diversity of opinions and by the decision-making rules», «encourage reflection and debate on a theme, defined annually», «provide the experience of participating in electoral processes»; «stimulate the capacities of expression and argumentation in the defense of ideas, with respect for the values ​​of tolerance and the formation of the will of the majority» and «underline the importance of their contribution to the resolution of issues that affect their present and future, individually and collective, making their proposals heard in the bodies of political power».

The Algarve Regional Directorate of the IPDJ is the partner entity of this project, in the region, for secondary education.

For the 2023/2024 school year, in secondary education, it is proposed that young people work on the theme “Living APRIL in Education: paths towards a plural and participatory school”.
