The inauguration of the new location of the sculpture “Neptuno”, by Pedro Cabrita Reis, in Jardim da Alameda, the signing of contracts for the construction of social housing and a new school and a concert with António Zambujo, Buba Espinho and Luís Trigacheiro. These are the highlights of the commemorative program for the Day of the Municipality of Faro, this Thursday, September 7th.
The initiatives begin on Wednesday, the 6th, at 11:00 am, with the inauguration of the new location of the sculpture «Neptuno» by Pedro Cabrita Reis, inspired by the Roman carpet of the mosaic of the Ocean God – which was, since 2020, at the Municipal Museum in Faro – and will now be permanently located in the renovated Jardim da Alameda.
From 14:30 pm on the same day, the inauguration of the toponymy of several streets in the Vale das Almas Urbanization will take place – Rua Maria Luísa Estácio da Veiga, Rua Maria Silvina Dias, Rua Maria Berta Figueira Pereira Travia and, from 15:30 pm, in the Urbanização de Gambelas – Rua Montalvão Marques, Rua João Félix Martins, Rua Joaquim Romero Magalhães, Rua António Rosa Mendes and Caminho Jorge Roque.
This will be followed, from 18 pm, in the Church of S. Pedro, by a suffrage mass by the employees and mayors of the City Council of Faro.
At 19 pm, Fábrica da Cerveja will host the opening of the exhibition “Emergente” – artistic residency program promoted by the Municipality of Faro and Teatro das Figuras – and the exhibition at BOCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts.
One of the highlights of the program takes place from 22 pm, at Largo da Sé, with an unprecedented joint concert by António Zambujo, Buba Espinho and Luís Trigacheiro (and admission will be free).
On Municipality Day, from 9 am, the protocol ceremony of raising the flags will take place, next to the Teatro das Figuras, a place that will host, from 15 am, the solemn session of the 9rd anniversary of the elevation of Faro the city, where the usual distinctions will take place to various officials, personalities and the delivery of the key of honor to the city.
From 15 pm onwards, the inauguration of the toponymy of Praceta Cristóvão Norte and Praceta Cabrita Neto will take place, followed by, at 00 pm, the signing of the consignment document, and inauguration of the respective toponymy, of Avenida Aníbal Guerreiro.
From 16:45 pm onwards, the signing of the contract for the construction of 22 social housing units on Rua Ludovico Menezes will take place, followed by the signing of the contract for the construction of EB1 Afonso III.
The commemorative program for the Day of the City ends at 18 pm with the inauguration ceremony of a monument with the symbol of the City of Hayward (United States of America), on the avenue with the same name, next to the Pavilhão da Penha.
