And there are two: 3,7 earthquake registered off Olhão was felt

This morning, another earthquake had already been recorded in the south-southwest of Faro

An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter at sea, around 50 kilometers south of Olhão, was recorded by the Continental Seismic Network stations, today, Tuesday, at 11:17 am, and felt in areas of Faro, Loulé and Olhão.

This is the second earthquake to be felt today in the Algarve region, after this morning an earthquake was recorded south-southwest of Faro e sense in the region of Albufeira.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV (modified Mercalli scale) in the municipalities of Faro, Loulé and Olhão.

This earthquake, according to the information available so far, did not cause personal or material damage, adds the IPMA.

If you also felt the earthquake, you can help IPMA, which wants to map the extent of the effects of the earthquakes felt, by filling out a short questionnaire, available here.

According to the Richter scale, earthquakes are classified according to their magnitude as micro (less than 2,0), very small (2,0-2,9), small (3,0-3,9), slight (4,0-4,9), moderate (5,0-5,9), strong (6,0-6,9), large (7,0-7,9), important (8,0-8,9 .9,0), exceptional (9,9-10) and extreme (when greater than XNUMX).

On the other hand, according to the IPMA, “the location of the epicenter of an earthquake is a complex physical and mathematical process that depends on the set of data, algorithms and models of propagation of seismic waves. Different agencies may produce slightly different results», explains the IPMA.

Likewise, «preliminary determinations are usually corrected later, by incorporating more information».
