Monte Gordo pays homage to its patron saint, until September 15th, with traditional festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora das Dores, which will end with a concert by José Malhoa and a fireworks display.
The celebrations begin today, the 6th, Wednesday, with the performance of the Musical Band of the VRSA Cultural Association, at 21 pm.
The following day, Thursday, the shows start at 22pm and feature performances from the Santo António de Arenilha Ethnographic Group and the Quelfes Ethnographic Group «Dança dos Velhos». The night is capped off by the Azinhal Folklore Ranch.
On September 8th, Friday, from 22pm, the program begins with the rhythms of the group «Trio Gerações», followed by performances by Rafael Sousa and DJ Mel.
On Saturday, the morning is reserved for activities for the youngest, in addition to the 3rd trophy in honor of Nossa Senhora das Dores, at 11 am, organized by the Associação Escolas de Futebol Monte Gordo.
This will be followed, at 17pm, by the veterans' game Grupo Desportivo Os Cuícos X Sporting Clube Viana do Alentejo, as well as the usual religious ceremonies in the church of Monte Gordo (19 p.m.). The entertainment for the evening starts at 00 pm and is in charge of the band «Remember Me», «Duo Reflexo» and DJ Cabeça.
On Sunday, the 10th, the morning begins with dawn, accompanied by the Musical Band of the VRSA Cultural Association (8:00 am), and continues with the usual rowing boat race (12:00 pm).
The highlight of the festivities is the procession with the image of Nossa Senhora das Dores, at 17 pm. Marked by a very characteristic nature, the celebration runs along the beach of Monte Gordo, being accompanied not only by hundreds of faithful and tourists, but also by fishing boats that, with their horns, announce the passage of the religious procession.
Also on Sunday, at 22 pm, Avenida Marginal de Monte Gordo receives a concert by José Malhoa, author of romantic and festive songs in Portuguese light music.
The artist will bring some of his summer hits to the stage.
The poster ends with the traditional fireworks, at 00:00, which will illuminate the Bay of Monte Gordo, and ends with a performance by DJ Paulo Karussa with music from the 80s and 90s.
The party in honor of Nossa Senhora das Dores is organized by the City Council of VRSA, by the Parish Council of Monte Gordo and by the local parish. It has the support of the Praia de Mariscadores Association Monte Gordo, from the Artisanal Fishing Association of Baía de Monte Gordo and the «Os Cuícos» Sports Group.
