1st cycle students in Terras do Infante challenged to be reader-writers

“Reader-Writer” competition is accepting entries

Students from Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo are being challenged to unleash their creativity in writing and drawing in another edition of the “Reader-Writer” competition, promoted by the Municipal Library of Lagos Dr. Júlio Dantas and aimed at children of the 1st cycle of the Terras do Infante territory.

The initiative arose from the intention of the municipality of Lagos to encourage the reading of Portuguese authors by young primary school students, but also to stimulate their creativity.

Students can compete in two categories, Drawing and Writing (poetry, prose or short story), and the works must be inspired by works by the guest author, in this case, Nuno Caravela.

Participations must be original and delivered by March 4, 2024 at the Lagos Municipal Library facilities indicating the student's name, teacher's name and educational establishment, and group work of up to three members will also be accepted. The best works will be rewarded with books by the author and vouchers to be redeemed at a local bookstore.

Nuno Caravela is a writer and illustrator who has developed several projects in the area of children's literature in partnership with Portuguese publishers.

Author of the successful series “O Bando das Cavernas”, he managed to attract a vast legion of young readers whose imagination and knowledge are stimulated with his fun language», according to the Câmara de Lagos.

This was one of the reasons why the municipalities of Lagos and Loulé commissioned, in 2019, the creation of a special edition of the collection, “O Bando das Cavernas de Lagos a Loulé com Sophia”, within the scope of the centenary of the birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.

The rules for participating in the competition may be consulted here.
