Alcoutim sets the minimum IMI rate and provides tax benefits to residents

Proposals were approved at a Chamber meeting

The Alcoutim Chamber approved measures to alleviate the tax burden in the municipality, including setting the IMI rate at the minimum value permitted by law (0,3%) and “the maximum reduction provided for in the law of the IMI rate in accordance with with the number of dependents", announced the municipality.

The Alcouteneja Chamber will also waive the 5% IRS collection on the income of taxpayers with tax domicile in the municipality.

«With regard to rented urban buildings intended for permanent housing, the Municipality also decided to set a reduction of 20% (the maximum percentage provided for by law) of the IMI rate to be applied», added the municipality.

Tax benefits were also approved for families, which undergo a reduction in the IMI rate according to the number of members that make up the household, «being 20 euros for families with one child, 40 euros for families with two children and 70 euros for families with three or more dependents».

«Families with dependents have increased expenses (…) and must be highlighted, valued and protected as a pillar of our society», considers Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Chamber of Odemira.

«These measures make life easier for families who find themselves having difficulty meeting their financial commitments as a result of the current economic situation», he highlights.

«In conjunction with the Birth Incentive Program, which supports families with 5 thousand euros for each child born in the municipality, the reduction in the IMI rate for families with children is yet another positive differentiation factor for the municipality, enhancing attraction and retaining residents and encouraging the increase in population in our municipality», concludes Osvaldo Gonçalves.

These proposals, approved at the Chamber Meeting, still have to be discussed and voted on at the Municipal Assembly on September 28th.
