Cyclist Venceslau Fernandes, from the Algarve team AP Hotels&Resorts-Tavira-Farense, was expelled today from the 84th Tour of Portugal, with the commissioners invoking an aggravated infraction, more specifically “de facto routes between runners”.

After the end of the fifth stage, won by his teammate Delio Fernández, the 27-year-old rider was expelled, with the race stewards mentioning an assault, without specifying which other rider was involved.

However, the communiqué of the tirade mentions that the Spaniard Óscar Pelegrí (Burgos-BH) was fined for “dangerous behavior between runners”, with the article for the punishment being the same that led to the expulsion of Venceslau Fernandes.

The cyclist who has been racing for Tavira since 2022 is the son of Venceslau Fernandes, known as “Lau” by his many fans, who was the winner of the Tour of Portugal by bicycle in 1984, when he was already 39 years old.
