UAlg has placement rate above the national average for the 4th consecutive year

The University of Algarve (UAlg) presents, for the fourth consecutive year, a placement rate higher than the national average.

According to the results of the 1st phase of the 2023/24 National Competition for Access to Higher Education, 1523 new students were placed at UAlg.

According to the UAlg itself, this is «the fourth highest number of new students in the last 30 years and the second highest placement rate ever, with 94,2% of places filled, and 107 places left». Of the 46 courses available, 37 sold out.

The number of 1st option candidates continued to exceed the number of vacancies.

According to the results of the 1st phase of the 2023/24 National Contest for Access to Higher Education, now published, the UAlg placement rate (94,2%) was again higher than that of the country, standing at 3,3 points percentages above the national average.

The UAlg placement rate registers the second best result ever, remaining above 90% for the fourth consecutive year (2020/21: 93%; 2021/22: 91%; 2022/23: 97%; 2023/34 : 94%).

UAlga adds that the number of vacancies for 2023/24 had increased compared to the previous year, from 1610 to 1616.

According to a press release released by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, “placement in the first phase of the 47th national access competition has been completed, with 2023 new students being admitted to public higher education in 49438, which corresponds to a decrease of 0,7% compared to the same phase of the 2022 tender”.

Of the candidates for the first phase of the competition, 84% have already been placed, with 87% of the students having been placed in one of their first three options. At UAlg, the number of candidates in 1st option (1691) was again higher than the total number of vacancies (1616) available.

Of the 46 courses available, 37 no longer have vacancies, thus distributing the remaining 107 vacancies over just 9 courses.

For the rector Paulo Águas, «the UAlg results follow the national trend and show a supply adjusted to a solid demand, foreseeing, however, a reduction in the number of candidates in the coming years».
