Taxpayers with an IMI value of more than 500 euros and who did not opt for full payment in May can start paying the second installment of the tax as of today.
The Municipal Property Tax (IMI) is paid in one lump sum, during the month of May, when its amount is less than 100 euros. If the amount is between 100 and 500 euros it can be divided into two installments paid in May and November. If you exceed 500 euros, it is divided into three installments to be paid in May, August and November.
According to data from the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), provided in response to Lusa, this year 4.082.440 IMI assessments were issued, 916.359 of which were up to 100 euros.
In this total there are still 2.486.548 with tax amounts between 100 and 500 euros and 679.533 above 500 euros.
The IMI rates are set annually by the municipalities, in a range between 0,3% and 0,45% (for urban buildings and land for construction), and it is also up to them to decide on joining the family IMI, a mechanism that gives a discount to resident families, or on the application of increased rates on vacant or dilapidated buildings.
