Minister Ana Abrunhosa inaugurates Medieval Days of Castro Marim

The event will last until Sunday, the 27th.

Ana Abrunhosa, Minister of Territorial Cohesion, will inaugurate this Wednesday, August 23, the new edition of Medieval Days of Castro Marim.

The event will last until Sunday, the 27th, and more than 45 arts and crafts will be represented, this year with a reorganized space, where major shows take place, such as medieval tournaments on horseback.

Another of the great medieval attractions and recreations at the Castle are the banquets (only with prior purchase and reservation), which take place in an exclusive space and by torchlight. The menu brings together delicacies from medieval times and during supper diners are entertained by performances by animation groups.

A different experience is the royal table – “Be King for a Night”-, with only 10 guests per night, enjoying the courts of the Middle Ages.

Still in Castelo, the exhibition of Instruments of Torture and Punishment (co-financed by Interreg VA, supported by the European Union, 75% co-financed by ERDF, FOURTOURS project), will recall some of the reasons why the Middle Ages were the Dark Ages.

The medieval parade will also be an opportunity to enter this universe, on the first and last day of the event (August 23rd, at 19 pm, and August 00th, at 27:17 pm).

There will also be plenty of entertainment in the streets by 30 groups, national and international, who will present everything from street theaters, “passa calles” groups, jugglers, brawlers, fire-eaters, pipers, tightrope walkers, swordsmen and contortionists, medieval music, music and Arabian-Oriental dance, sacred music, medieval dances, snake charmers, arruadas and even falconry demonstrations.

Designed to welcome families, during the Medieval Days in Castro Marim there is also no shortage of spaces for children's entertainment, with workshops, games, carousels and storytellers, among many other entertainment.

To complete this trip to the Middle Ages, there is the Historical Recreation at Fort S. Sebastião, promoted by Associação Companhia Livre, oriented towards the post-medieval period, as a way to enhance and integrate the fortress, which dates from the XNUMXth century.

“The Battles of the Restoration | December 1, 1640 – February 13, 1668” will be the motto of this stage, with presentations and demonstrations by professionals from the Real Academia do Terço (pikemen, gunners and rodelers).

The event will continue to be Eco, seeking and calling for the maximum reduction of waste, the reuse of materials and the use of recyclable materials.

In addition to selling tickets on the BOL, one of the great innovations this year was the installation of billboards in Altura and Castro Marim, which facilitate the purchase of tickets online.

The ticket offices for Medieval Days in Castro Marim open at 15:00, while the activities and entertainment of the event start at 18:00 and close at 00:00.

During the event, organized by the Castro Marim City Council, the Municipal Support Office (GAM) will function as an information and support post.
