Louletans already have access to the 9 plots of the Bicas Velhas Urban Gardens

Users now have the opportunity to cultivate that piece of land

The 9 plots of the Bicas Velhas Urban Gardens, in Loulé, were handed over to new users on the 28th of July, the National Day for Nature Conservation.

From now on, these users will have the opportunity to cultivate that piece of land and collect some horticultural products for their own consumption.

In a note, the Loulé municipality recalls that «the use of vegetable gardens requires compliance with the established rules, the correct use of the resources made available and a healthy coexistence between users». On the other hand, organic farming is a mandatory element.

«The Urban Gardens of the Municipality of Loulé were created with the objective of providing the citizens of the municipality, in particular the population in a more vulnerable situation in socioeconomic terms, the possibility of cultivating their agricultural products, and thus being able to enjoy fresh products, produced for you and your family", continues the Municipality of Loulé, which considers that, at a global level, "it is important to find more and more ways to contribute to the reinforcement of the production of food products".

The Hortas de Loulé occupy, according to the municipality, a public space that was available, «their use of which contributes to the recovery of the site and balance of the city landscape, as well as to the use of a valuable resource that was wasted, the water from Bicas Velhas (a stream located next to the land)».

In this way, the Municipality of Loulé believes that with the creation of these Vegetable Gardens, «the community has been given back a community space that works as a link of social coexistence between generations and provides economic and health benefits, especially with regard to healthy eating. , favoring contact with nature as a way of avoiding a sedentary lifestyle».
