“Liberating the Memory” cycle shows the film “I am not your black man” at the Fortress of Sagres

“I Am Not Your Negro” is the next film to be shown in the “Libertar a Memória” cinema cycle, this Saturday, August 26, from 17:30 pm, at the Auditorium of Fortaleza de Sagres . 

The initiative is part of the DiVaM program – Dynamization and Enhancement of Monuments – with the theme “(Un)comfortable Heritage”.

This session refers to the International Day in Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition (August 23).

The curatorship is by Suzano Costa, researcher at the Political Observatory. Bachelor, Master and Doctor in Political Science, specializing in Theory and Political Analysis, from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

His most recent publications include the books “Between Africa and Europe: Nation, State and Democracy in Cape Verde (Almedina)”, “As External Relations of Cape Verde: (Re)Contemporary Readings” (ISCJS) and “State and Quality of Democracy in Africa: Between Civic Lethargy and Leviathan Omnipresence” (Principia).

~”Libertar a Memória” is a project promoted by the Cineclube de Faro, with the coordination and artistic direction of Luísa Baptista, supported by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve / DiVaM – Dynamization and Enhancement of Monuments.

It counts with “BUALA” and the bookstore “A Internacional” as partners and with the support of Multicópias – Centro de Soluções Gráficas.

As for the film, which came out in 2016, it is directed by Raoul Peck, written by James Baldwin and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.

“Eu Não Sou o Teu Negro” is a reflection on the historical struggles for equal rights and the way in which the theme remains current and relevant in the context of the XNUMXst century. Premiered at the Toronto Film Festival (Canada), it was nominated for the Oscar for Best Documentary.
