Carlos Silva e Sousa Arts and Crafts Center has a lot to offer in August

At the same time, the Arts and Crafts Center welcomes, every Wednesday (except the 16th), between 14:30 pm and 16:30 pm, the weaver of the ECOS project – Oficina Ecológica de Cooperacao Social

Ceramics, palm woodwork, tapestry and glass painting. These are the themes of the four workshops taking place this month at the Carlos Silva e Sousa Arts and Crafts Centre, in Albufeira. 

Opening the month of August, Carla Neto is the trainer responsible for the creative ceramics workshop, on the first day of the month, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

The goal is to explore textures and create a unique piece, using the ballast technique and leaf decals. The activity has a cost of 40 euros, with material included, and registrations are made through the following email: [email protected].

On the 5th and 12th of August, the Blue Room of the INATEL Albufeira Praia Hotel will host an Empreita de Palma workshop. In a joint organization between the Arts and Crafts Center of Albufeira and CEARTE – Professional Training Center for Handicrafts and Heritage, participants, over the course of 14 hours, will be able to learn one of the most recognized and rooted arts of material culture in the Algarve.

The initiative starts on the 5th, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:00 pm, and the second day of training is on the 12th, at the same times.

On the 19th, from 10:00 am to 13:30 pm, Susana Mendez teaches the basic techniques for creating a small decorative tapestry using a loom. Applications are made to the e-mail: [email protected] and the “class” costs 50 euros (material included).

The last workshop of the month is dedicated to Glass Painting. In this activity it is intended that participants paint, using stained glass paints, a small frame or glass plate. The training, led by Maria José Ribeiro, runs from 10 am to 00 pm on the 13th and costs 00 euros.

At the same time, the Arts and Crafts Center receives, every Wednesday (except the 16th), between 14 pm and 30 pm, the weaver of the ECOS project – Ecological Workshop for Social Cooperation.

The ECOS project, promoted by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira, develops and provides innovative activities and actions in the field of personal and social training, employability and promotion and integration in the community. The Arts and Crafts Center also features a textile exhibition by Vanessa Barragão, entitled “Maré”.
