heat puts Faro and Beja under orange notice at the weekend

There are 12 districts in mainland Portugal with this warning

Faro and Beja are among the 12 districts of mainland Portugal that will be on orange warning over the weekend due to the heat, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to the IPMA, as of today, weather conditions in mainland Portugal "should change significantly", with hot and dry weather forecast, with generally clear skies.

«There is thus a generalized rise in the maximum temperature values ​​for Saturday, the 5th, with maximum temperature values ​​above 30°C expected, with the exception of some places on the coast where the values ​​will be lower, and between 35 and 40 °C in the Center and South regions», reads the statement.

According to the IPMA, between Sunday and Wednesday, the maximum temperature should vary between 35 and 40 degrees in most of the territory.

Thus, the districts of Faro and Lisbon will be on orange warning between 00:00 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday. The district of Setúbal will have an orange warning between 00:00 on Saturday and 18:00 on Monday.

The IPMA also issued an orange warning for the districts of Beja, Évora, Santarém, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Portalegre between 12:00 pm on Sunday and 18:00 pm on Monday.

Guarda and Coimbra are also under orange warning, but between 12h00 and 18h00 on Monday.

The orange warning is issued by the IPMA when there is a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk.
