The current president of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve accumulates, since the beginning of the month, these functions with those of the clinical management of CHUA, after resignation of the previous director, the doctor Horácio Guerreiro.
Contacted by Sul Informação, Ana Varges Gomes explained that this accumulation of functions «results from the figure of the law», since she is the only doctor to integrate the Board of Directors of CHUA and, since there is still no appointment of a new person for the clinical direction, only she could assume that responsibility.
«This is the legal and expected solution», clarified Ana Varges Gomes.
The same person in charge recalled that the appointment of the clinical management (and the Board of Directors itself) was up to now the responsibility of the Minister of Health. becomes the executive director of the National Health Service.
«We have already spoken with the executive management of the SNS», added Ana Varges Gomes, adding that proposals were sent for names to eventually occupy the position of clinical management of CHUA. But there is still no decision.
Meanwhile, CHUA's Board of Directors itself ended its term on December 31 of last year, remaining in office until it is reappointed or replaced, in whole or in part.
Asked whether she already has any indication about her future, Ana Varges Gomes only replied: "the minister is the one who can answer".
