Sailor from Algarve finishes 6th in the Junior World of ILCA6

In a fleet with 259 sailors in competition

João Pontes, a sailor from the Algarve who is part of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Hopes Program, won 6th place among the Junior fleet, in the ILCA6 Junior and Absolute World Championship, which took place from the 1st to the 9th of July, in the city of Dziwnów , in Poland.

In a fleet with 259 sailors in competition, João Pontes fought for the podium until the end.

“This was a championship whose beginning was complicated, with some difficulties, but which, fortunately, I managed to overcome and improve over the days. 6th place at the Worlds is an excellent result in a very strong fleet with 259 sailors”, said João Pontes.

“My mind is already on the European Championship that will take place next week, where I have the ambition to get an even better classification”, he added.

Another Portuguese sailor present was Enzo Pegado, from Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro, who, at the end of the 12 races, ranked 115th overall.
